In this classic show from not too long ago, eTown gets even more soulful than usual, as hosts Nick & Helen Forster welcomed the late Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, the “masters of old school R&B”, for their first visit. Sharon gave a passionate performance with her band and a lively interview with Nick. Also on the show was Darrell Scott, the extraordinarily talented singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who’s been called “the best of the best”. He plays several tunes, some accompanied artfully by Nick and the eTones, with Helen on harmony vocals! Stay tuned ’til the end so that you can catch the finale, which is an eTown classic you just have to check out!
Plus, we hear from a dedicated eChievement Award winner from Vermont, Nancy Clark, founder of The Zienzele Foundation. The foundations’ effort has a two-pronged approach which (1) provides income generation opportunities for the caregivers of AIDS orphans with the orphans and caregivers as beneficiaries. And (2) In-school education and vocational training for AIDS orphans themselves. Zienzele works in 18 villages in Zimbabwe. In general, proceeds are put right back in the community and nearly 1100 kids are kept in school each year.
