Wow – what a dynamic show we have for you this week! From Oakland, California comes the Blues and R&B stylings of The California Honeydrops, led by the charismatic Lech Wierzynski. Also from Oakland comes our second musical act, Miko Marks who brings with her a soulful voice and presence. Nick also visits with Emma Weber, a teenage environmental activist from the Boulder hub of Sunrise Movement, about her work toward a better future.
The California Honeydrops

Formed in the subway systems of Oakland, retro-soul outfit The California Honeydrops are an electrifying group that defy convention at every turn. They’ve become a mainstay at festivals including Byron Bay Bluesfest (Australia), Outside Lands, Monterey Jazz, Lightning In A Bottle and touring with B.B. King, Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy and Allen Toussaint. Led by the enigmatic and energetic frontman Lech Wierzynski and percussionist Benjamin Malament, each member of the band is a virtuoso in their own rite — Yanos “Johnny Bones” Lustig on saxophone, Lorenzo Loera on keyboards/guitar, Beaumont Beaullieu on drums, Miles Blackwell on bass and regularly accompanied by Oliver Tuttle on trombone, Leon Cotter on saxophone/clarinet and Miles Lyons on trombone/sousaphone — navigating through a vast repertoire of original songs and timeless classics every night.
But what truly sets them apart is their unwavering commitment to the art of improvisation – a skill so finely honed that they have completely abandoned the use of set lists and no two shows are ever the same. Off stage, their music has been streamed more than 200 million times and placed in a variety of TV and films, including “Dead To Me,” “Alaska Daily,” “Black-ish” and more.
They are currently touring North America in support of their new album, Keep On Diggin’.
Miko Marks

Thirteen years after her last album, Miko Marks re-emerged stronger than ever with Our Country (March 2021 via Redtone Records). She had all but given up on her career aspirations after she was effectively told by Nashville executives that her music was good but she wouldn’t sell. Fast forward thirteen years later – she crafted a beautiful album that received nods from NPR, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and more. Miko was named to the 2022 Class of CMT’s Next Women of Country and participated in the first Equal Access program with mTheory.
On October 14, 2022 Miko released her widely anticipated album Feel Like Going Home and made her Grand Ole Opry debut on the same day. The album landed on several year-end “best-of” lists including Rolling Stone, NPR, Paper and Garden & Gun among others. In March of 2023, she was included in the American Currents exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville which was up for the entire year. In 2024 she was a co-headliner of the Trailblazing Women of Country tour which spanned the entire US over 10 weeks. She is currently working on her new album.
Emma Weber

Emma Weber is a high school senior in Boulder, Colorado and a dedicated climate activist. She co-founded her local Sunrise Movement hub, part of a national organization of young people fighting to stop the climate crisis and invest in black, brown and working-class communities. In 2023, she helped pass a districtwide climate justice resolution and has since spearheaded a statewide campaign, collaborating with state legislators to advance policies supporting climate justice and public education. Beyond her local efforts, Emma plays a national role in shaping Sunrise Movement’s student organizing strategy and support systems. Passionate about creating systemic change, she works to empower young activists and push for meaningful political action. Outside of organizing, Emma enjoys spending time with her twin sister, reading and running cross country and track.
